Welcome to Year Four!
Hello from the Year 4 team! This year Mrs Hashim and Mrs Oliver will be teaching your children. Each week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning will be taught by Mrs Hashim. Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday by Mrs Oliver. We are so excited to get to know your children and work closely with you to ensure the children quickly settle back into their new classroom routines, are happy at school and make wonderful progress! Please do get in touch if you have any worries or questions. If you wish to contact us please send us an email. We are very happy to meet after school and ask that you email us to book an
appointment.
Thursday 18th September was Y4 Class Celebration of The Word (Harvest) and we were delighted to welcome parents and carers to join us and watch.
Our Patron Saint in Year Four is Saint Andrew. We celebrated his Feast day on November 30th. On this day the Year Four children were allowed to wear their own clothes. Please see the newsletters below and the school calendar for further important dates.
RE
Religious Education is our most important subject and is at the core of our curriculum. We do 2 hours of RE every week, a child led liturgy every week and four other sessions of collective worship including Mass or celebration every Thursday.
PE
PE may be indoors to outside; this means we are dependent on the weather. Therefore, please make sure you wear appropriate PE kit.
Tuesday and Friday are our PE days. On PE days, your child should come to school in their PE kit:
- A plain t shirt (white or black)
- Dark shorts or trousers
- A pair of trainers
- A plain dark sports top or sweatshirt
Swimming for Year 4 starts on Friday 9th January; from this week the children need to bring their swimwear and a towel each Friday. They can wear their swimming clothes under their PE kit but will need to remember underwear to change back into. Children may also bring goggles and a healthy snack for when they return to school.
Maths
In Maths we will continue to develop our understanding of numbers and our skills for calculating.
In Year 4 we will have particular focus on problem solving and times tables! We need to know all of our tables up to 12×12.
Remember that you can use TTRS to practise.
English
Each term we prepare at least 4 pieces of assessed writing. These are a mixture of fiction and non-fiction such as stories, letters, leaflets and many more. The children have regular grammar lessons, handwriting sessions and and a weekly spelling test which takes place every Friday morning.
The children have a reading record and we ask them and parents to sign it so that we can monitor their reading. In addition we have Guided Reading in smaller groups every week and those children who require extra support have extra sessions.
Homework
Each half term your child will receive a Homework letter with details of extra activities to further their learning. We also expect the children to read to an adult every night and practise their times tables.
