Welcome to Year Two!

Mrs Temple and Mrs Armstrong are the class teachers in Year 2.

Our Patron Saint is St Francis. It is St Francis’ feast day on the Saturday so the children were able to come in their home clothes on Friday 3rd October.

Please see the newsletters below and the school calendar for further important dates.

Reading is so important in Year Two; try to read with your child every day and read to them as much as possible. We will be sending home the book that we are all reading in class the week after this text is completed. Each book is used in class over 2 weeks. We encourage you to read this book with your children at home as this book is helping to build a variety of reading skills.

The children will also bring home colour banded books (the aim is to read at a level they are 90% fluent at before moving on to the next level). The children are encouraged to change
books by themselves when they need to. If you would like a new book then just let us know before or after school.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email and get in touch.

R.E.

R.E. is at the core of our curriculum. We do 2 hours of RE every week, a child led liturgy every week, and four other sessions of collective worship including Mass or celebration every Thursday. Please look at the dates of Mass and Celebrations for the term – we would love for you to join us for Mass and our child led liturgies.

P.E.

We have two PE sessions each week, on Tuesdays and Friday.  Children come to school on their PE days in full PE uniform. Full PE uniform should include trainers for outdoor use and blue or black shorts/tracksuit bottoms. On colder days please ensure they are dressed appropriately for outside sport. They will need jogging tops and bottoms as well as trainers suitable for outside. For the warmer summer term, please remember sun hats!

English & Maths

In Year Two we have a daily English lesson and we read every day – please make sure your child remembers their book bag and reading record everyday.  The children are encouraged to use their best handwriting at ALL times and to practise every day!

In our Maths lessons we continue to develop our skills in calculating and problem solving using all four operations. In the summer term we will be looking at efficient methods for
problems solving including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Then we will look at statistics as well as position and direction. By the end of Year Two we will all know our 2s, 5s and 10 times tables.
