All children can start school in the September before their 5th birthday, and you should apply for your child to start primary or infant school by the 15th January in the school year your child turns 4.
For entry in the September 2025 school year, children will have been born between 1st September 2020 and 31st August 2021. Later start dates are possible and can be discussed with the headteacher. Applications for a place in Reception starting in September 2024 opened on the 12th September 2024 and the national deadline for applications is the 15th January 2025.
Please note that applying early does not give any priority, although to have the best chance of your application being successful you should complete and submit your application by the deadline. If you apply online, your application result will be available online from 10.00am on National Offer Day in April 2025. You’ll require your username and password.
How and When to apply
Applications must be made via the Local Authority where the family live. Parents/Carers should also complete a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) available here or below to download in PDF format which you can download below as this is used to determine whether you are applying under a specific category.
Since September 2022, St George’s RC Primary School has been part of the Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust who now become the admissions authority for the school.
All forms must be submitted or returned by the closing date set by the Local Authority; failure to provide a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) could affect the category your application is placed in. Please note that it is the responsibility of the parent/carer to complete all forms and supply evidence – reminders will not be sent.
Applications via the City of York Council admissions team for entry into reception can be made by using the online form to apply for a school place. If you can’t apply online you can request a paper Primary Application Form by calling 01904 551 554.
Please read the Guide for Parents when applying for a school place, as it contains key information on school admissions. Please see the City of York Council website for further information regarding school admissions and applications, together with details about the appeals process. We also advise you to keep checking on the CYC site to keep updated with key dates throughout the year.
