“Helping Children Meet God in Everyday Life”

We are here to support pupils and staff with School Masses, Celebrations of the Word, Class Worship and any other prayers.  We help our pupils organise activities so they can follow Jesus’ commandment to love God and to love one another.

Prayer and social action activities occur throughout the year according to the liturgical calendar and national or global events.  Examples so far this year include praying the rosary for peace and raising money for the victims of the floods in Valencia.

On Tuesday 29th April, after school at 3.15pm, we will be holding a Faith in Action Cake Sale in aid of HOPING Street Kitchen in York, with cakes costing just 50p.

On Thursday 1st May the May procession will be led by Year 2 with the children processing outside followed by a Celebration of the Word inside. Children may bring flowers if they wish, and the younger children often make and wear flower headbands.

Our Faith in Action team is made up of pupils from Year 6.  They plan and run activities based on our school motto:

“To be the best we can be together”

2025 – A Year of Jubilee

Pope Francis declared 2025 a year of Jubilee in the Church. The theme is “Pilgrims of Hope,” hope for a world suffering the impacts of war, the ongoing effects COVID-19 pandemic and a climate crisis. Within the Catholic Church, Jubilees have always been special years for forgiveness, reconciliation, and mercy. The year is a special year of grace, it’s about pilgrimage and prayer as well as celebration and reconciliation. You can read more about this here on the CAFOD website, or watch their video below.

In school, our main actions will be to complete the CAFOD LiveSimply Award which the Faith in Action team started last year.

CAFOD LiveSimply Award

Last year’s Faith in Action team started the award and completed some activities.  Our aim is to complete all the activities this school year ready for assessment.  Working towards the award fits in really well with this year’s Jubilee where we are encouraged to be “Pilgrims of Hope”.  Our actions for the award are:

Live Simply

  • To pray for peace throughout the year
  • To celebrate our diverse school family and take part in the Day of Many Colours  (Mission Together) in June.
  • To create a guided pilgrimage for Margaret Clitherow around York

Live Sustainably

  • To improve our outside areas to encourage pollinators
  • To encourage pupils to save water by turning off taps
  • To organise a book swap

Live in Solidarity

  • To take part in CAFOD’s #BigLentWalk
  • To support local organisations e.g HOPING Street Kitchen in their projects (e.g. bake sale or other fundraising)
  • To collect and deliver food parcels and gifts for lonely and older residents in the local area

Christ is at the Centre of all we do.

Our schools form part of the essential partnership of home, school and parish ~ which lies at the heart of the Catholic Church’s mission to educate, to raise our children in the faith and to bring our children up with the secure knowledge that God loves them and has a plan for them.

We organise the themes and dates for Masses and celebrations, some special assemblies, pilgrimages, liturgies, prayer groups, charitable works and the celebration of the sacraments.

Please come and see us if you would like to get involved or have any ideas you would like to share with us.
