Welcome to Year One!
Mrs Walker is our class teacher on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays and Mrs Bowker teaches us on Wednesdays.
Mrs Iggulden is our assistant teacher.
We have lots of fun and we work really hard in year one! We will continue to communicate what the class has done at school using a class Tapestry account. This will be a shared account with all of the parents.
Please feel free to pop in after school with any concerns or questions about school.
Our Patron Saint in Year One is Saint Bernadette and we celebrate her feast day on the 16th April. Please see the newsletters below and the school calendar for further important dates.
RE is our most important subject and is at the core of our curriculum. We do 2 hours of RE every week, a child led liturgy every week and four other sessions of collective worship including Mass or celebration every Thursday.
Reading is really important in Year One. Children need to read their reading book to an adult DAILY to help reinforce both their reading in school and their daily phonics lessons.
Children come to school in their PE uniform on PE days, which are Mondays and Thursdays. Please remember that your child needs a pair of outdoor trainers, blue or black shorts and a white t shirt. Thank you!
In year one we do English and Maths every day. In Maths we always remember that, ‘Every number has a square ~ numbers do not like to share!’ If you would like to help your child at home with Maths then practising number formation is very important.
The children are encouraged to use their best handwriting at ALL times and to practise every day!
If you would like to know more about our handwriting please call in and we will be happy to show you how we form our letters!
Homework Choices
We would love you to read with your child, as much and as often as possible – this is the best homework!
