Welcome to Reception!

We would like to welcome both new and existing families to our Reception class as your children continue, or begin, their journey at St George’s Roman Catholic Primary School.

Our Patron Saint in Reception is St. Nicholas.

Please see the newsletters below and the school calendar for events and important dates.

Both our Nursery and Reception classes work closely together as we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

Our Reception teacher is Mrs Ellington, with Mrs Collins teaching us on Fridays. They are supported by our fabulous Assistant Teachers including Mrs Iggulden, Mrs Clarke,  and Miss Alison.

The Reception year is a very special time where children learn all the skills necessary for school. We learn to be a kind friend, express ourselves effectively and be independent learners as well as beginning our journey to read and write. A lot of our learning is through play, as this is how young children learn best!

Alongside all the exciting learning in our indoor and outdoor environments, we have some special events during the week.

In Reception we enjoy:

  • Forest schools on Monday
  • Mass or Liturgy on Thursday
  • Singing and Dancing on Thursday

Reception PE is on Friday and your child will come in their PE uniform on this day (white tshirt, black shorts/ joggers or leggings, black hoodie and trainers).

Please make sure your child has their bookbag and their reading record in school every day so we can record when we listen to your child read. Please write in your child’s reading record when you have listened to them read their book each day.

This half term finishes on Friday 22nd May. Children are back in school Monday 1st June. Please see the newsletter below for further important dates, and lots of other useful information!

In addition to the school social media, emails from the office and information here on our school website, we also use Tapestry to communication any updates on the news page – please frequently check Tapestry and your email for news and updates.
